The 2016 Sammy Wood

At 26 years old, ex top level gymnast and CrossFit Athletic athlete, Sammy's stats are mind blowing!! She begun CrossFitting in 2011. In the 2012 Open, she placed 31st and competed at Regionals as an individual placing 21st. The 2013 Open saw her placed 17th and she went on to compete in CrossFit Athletics team at Regionals where they placed 4th. In 2014 Sammy again qualified for Regionals and competed with her team, CrossFit Athletic placing 1st and qualifying for the CrossFit Games.

With her trademark grin and "wicked fresh" tagline, Sammy is fast becoming the name on everyone's lips. Her attitude to training and competition encompasses the 21.15.NINE philosophy of living a life, superlative.

Proudest moments in CrossFit:
1. Placing 1st at Regionals 2014 along with my fellow CrossFit Athletic Team mates.
2. Competing at the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games and Placing 1st in the first event- the water event. Was such an ecstatic Wicked Fresh feeling.
3. Other proud moments are always when you get a PB in lifting or a benchmark workout.

I have a mum, step dad, step mum and a very cool dad. I also have 2 brothers and 1 sister, so have grew up in a very busy but sporty family. As a child, spent mist of my time dancing and training hard in Gymnastics,  otherwise hanging at the beach and surfing. I would say that i was a very happy and a kid that was always full of energy!!

Annie Thorisdottir, Lauren Fisher, Denae Brown, Rich Froning and Dan Bailey. And one important role model to me is my coach Paul Waltonsuch a wise man, and helps me in not only CrossFit but life itself.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not training?
Surfing, Singing, Dancing, hanging with friends, just doing fun things!

Coolest place you’ve ever been to?

What do you think is your spirit animal and why?
hahaha… maybe a monkey because I have heaps of energy and am always happy most of the time.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Helping others with their CrossFit, Maybe even starting a family, maybe even being a successful CrossFit Athlete.

Favourite Spice Girl?
When I was young, it was baby Spice due to the blonde hair and I thought she was cool.

What would you say to someone who is just starting out in CrossFit?
Take your time to learn everything. Technique is sooo important, so don’t go too heavy too fast. Listen to you body when you are sore, and take a day off. CrossFit can become very addictive, and you will make so many gains, but listen to those around you when they give you advice.
